Bunk Beds Done Right

A friend of mine pointed out this picture to me in the IKEA catalog, specifically the curtain on the top bunk bed.  She thought it would be a cute idea for her daughter's bunk bed and I definitely agree.  It's such a cute idea, especially when you have kids sharing a room.  It would make a great reading nook, don't you think?

this room also used the IKEA hanging system for this bunk bed only the curtain is hung from floor to ceiling.  Love the light above the top bunk too, once again great for reading.

Mirror Makeover

My mom is a great thrifter.  She's where I get all my thriftiness from.  She found a fabulous deal on this mirror, $2 to be exact.  Can you believe that?!?  It wasn't in the best shape but just needed a little makeover to make it shine.

After....

Close up of the finish...

and check out my horsehead, a $5 homegoods find, who also got a mini makeover with a little white spraypaint...(can't seem to find the "before" picture)

Temporary Mousepad

Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions on the mousepad.  I'm currently still deciding what to do, but in the mean time I've found a temporary solution.  I stopped by Michael's today for a few baby shower decorations for a friend and ended up finding these awesome notepads.  (I always spend way too much time and $ in there)  They remind me of these much more expensive notepads from anthropologie.

I've always been drawn to the ones at anthropologie but never could fork over the cash for them.  So you can bet I was a happy girl when I found this similar version at Michael's for $1.  I was even happier when I got home and realized it could double as a mousepad.  It's not ideal but it works for the time being and doubles as a notepad.

Comfortable, Eclectic

We recently took a little trip to the most adorable french bakery called Amelie's.  It has a comfortable, eclectic feel to it.  They serve french cuisine and also french pastries and coffee.  It was such a nice treat to go there, and of course while we were there I couldn't help but take some pictures.

Although it's not my personal cup of tea design wise, I do appreciate the eclectic atmosphere and think it suits this type of place perfectly.

They are known for their salted caramel brownies and they did not disappoint, perfect combo of salty and sweet.

chandelier made out of cooking utensils, cool idea huh?

Love the framed menus

Perfect place for a date night or a Saturday morning cup of coffee.

Tuesday

Desktop Accessories

With my new glass top desk, I'm definitely trying to find ways to add more storage.  Before I had all my pens/pencils in the drawer of the desk and now that I don't have a drawer I had to find a new place for them to be easily accessible.  I searched around the house and grabbed this $2 horsehead milk glass piece from my collection.  I love the quirkiness of it and it's just the right size for all my pens.  Now I have an excuse to buy some prettier pens...

the new desk is also causing our mouse not to work, so I need a stylish option for a mouse pad.  Is there such a thing?  Any ideas?

I'm sure if I left it up to my husband we'd have this...

I'd like something that looks not so mousepad-ish, something in this pattern from dani notes would be lovely.  Just can't find anything like it in a mouse pad.

Any suggestions?

Thursday

Martha Stewart Paints

I popped into Home Depot yesterday to grab a few DIY supplies and stumbled upon this great selection of paints from Martha Stewart.  It seems like just the right size to paint a small piece of furniture or some accessories you may want to update.  I grabbed the aged gold for a project I'm working on; I'll let you know how it works.  They had several different finishes; bold, shimmery, and even glazes.  They ranged from around $5-$6 which I didn't think was too bad at all.  Have you seen these paints from Martha?  or given them a try?  I'll be sure to update you with how my little projet turns out.

Wednesday

$10 desk

The office transformation is getting close to being finished!  This project was a little unexpected.  The desk I had before was just fine but nothing fancy.  It was actually from my husband's bachelor pad before we got married.  I spruced it up by painting it white and just recently added the magenta details to the top.  I was content with it but then I realized I could have a much more glamorous desk for $10.  My mom brought me a large piece of glass that a friend of ours was getting rid of due to a big move.  The glass started the wheels turning for this project.  I remembered that I had two wood trestle bases in the garage that I found at IKEA for $5 each.  They were such a good deal that I snatched them up knowing I would find a project for them one day.  I actually used two of them before when I made this desk from a door.

Anyways, on to the desk.  I started with two of these...

spraypainted them gold, and added the glass.

2 bases $10
glass Free
Total: $10

Sure I'll miss the storage but I've found by adding some desktop storage I get by just fine.  Now I've just got to find a way to hide those pesky wires.

Next up:

*Makeover the free chair I have sitting in my garage
*Make slipcover for wingback chair, also sitting in garage
*Have room wired for overhead light, waiting for it to get cooler for that one
*Try not to kill fiddle leaf fig tree

edesigns

Happy Friday!!

Here's a recent edesign I've been working on...She wanted blues, teals, and yellows so we I chose to keep the backdrop neutral and add pops of color with the fabrics and furniture.

Oh Fiddle Leaf

I finally got a fiddle leaf fig tree!  I have been wanting one for my office for the longest time and finally found one at a local nursery.

ignore the blue plate underneath it, it's just temporary until I can find one of those things that keeps the water from going everywhere.

I'm just hoping it doesn't end up like my last plant...

yes, I killed a succulent.  The plants that are impossible to kill.  I mentioned this to the lady at the nursery and she assured me I would be fine.  She said Fiddle Leaf Figs thrive on neglect, I can do neglect.

and in other office news, I found this awesome lavender ginger jar at Goodwill for $2.99.  It goes perfectly in the office.
