IKEA Rodd Wall Sconce Hack

My daughter's room is almost done.  I just need to finish up a few small projects and then take pictures to share.  I knew I wanted it to be pink (Sherwin Williams Angelic).  Being the girly girl that she is, it just seemed fitting.  It also happens to be her favorite color at the moment.  We repurposed a lot of the furniture from her old room.  We found her trundle bed on Craigslist forever ago and decided to keep it for her new room.  It's really nice being able to have an extra bed that we can easily pull out if needed.  I'm sure it will come in handy for sleepovers down the road too!

The trundle bed does present a predicament when it comes to nightstands though.  So, I decided to just use a small table on one side of the bed that won't get in the way of the trundle.  For the lighting I  turned to IKEA for some inexpensive wall sconces.  I paired the Todd wall sconce with the Jara lamp shade.  I really wanted to do a pair of lamps, but with only one nightstand that wasn't really an option.

But, like a lot of things at IKEA, I found the sconces needed a little tweaking.  I started by spraying the base Rustoleum Gold Metallic.  Then, I sprayed a portion of the cord pink so it would blend in better with the wall color.  I also added some simple pink ric rac trim (I found mine at Hobby Lobby) to the top and bottom of the shade.  A dab of hot glue on the back of the shade is all you need to hold it in place.  That way if you want to remove it later there won't be any residue.  To prevent the cord from just hanging down the wall, I purchased these cord covers from Home Depot and painted them to match the wall color.  They have a peel and stick backing that hold them in place on the wall.  I think the gold makes them look so much more expensive than they are and the ric rac adds just enough girliness.

I couldn't pass up this sweet little jewelry dish at Ross.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

I think your daughter is one lucky girl! Her room is beautiful and these ikea hack sconces look custom and expensive. We also purchased wall sconces from Ikea for our dining room and sprayed them gold.
