Picture Ledge Gallery Wall

It's no secret that I love to change things up in our house.  I get tired of things and want to switch them up, so a picture ledge gallery wall in our living room seemed like a good idea.  I've always loved the way picture ledges looked, and this wall is pretty large so it needed some weight to keep the pictures from feeling small and out of balance.

I picked up 4 picture ledge shelves at IKEA.  It would be fairly easy to make a few of these on your own as well.  I'm sure there are lots of tutorials out there.

I butted two shelves together to form the top shelf and did the same for the bottom shelf.

I was able to use frames from my stash to fill up the shelves.  I also mixed in a little DIY artwork and a few Lindsay Letters pieces.

We picked up a norfolk pine at Home Depot during the Holidays for the playroom and I hated to just throw it away when the Christmas season was over.  So I stuck it the planter I used for our Christmas tree and put it in the corner.  I actually really love how it looks over there.  It sort of reminds me of a fern.  I've only watered it once since we brought it home and it's doing really well so that's always a plus.

This room is pretty much done, for now.  We are still searching for the perfect coffee table and I'm debating changing the wall color.  Everything in the house is painted builders beige and it's just not my favorite.  It has some peachy/yellow undertones.  I would prefer a pure white, but if I paint the walls white I'm pretty sure that means I have to paint the ceilings white and I'm not sure I'm up for all that.  So maybe we will go with a griege that reads more gray than taupe?  Our last living room was taupe so I'm pretty over that.  I'm open to suggestions if you have any!

  1. Those Ikea picture ledges are fantastic! And they give you more flexibility than a gallery wall. The room looks great!

  9. Love the gallery wall! I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to deciding on paint. My whole house is also builder beige and I have popcorn ceilings that I don't even want to think about. I'm leaning toward a neutral warm gray for most rooms. I have a lot of different metals and textures in my house and I think warm gray would get along with everything.. Let me know if you find a good one! =)

  11. I was wondering if you could give the dimensions of the frames you have on the ledges... I love this and I'm trying to get an idea of the size layout. Thank you!!!

  12. The largest frame on the top shelf is about 20" x 24" and the smallest frame is about 10" x 12". And it's about the same range on the bottom shelf. Hopefully that helps!
