A quick and easy bookcase makeover

This makeover is really not earth shattering or anything, but it does spur on my love for spray paint.  My daughter, like most little ones, loves books.  However, her room is already pretty packed to capacity so finding a place to put them was a bit of a dilemma.  So when I came across this little $5 bookcase at a garage sale I knew it would be perfect.  It wasn't fancy, but the size was just right.

You can probably tell from the pictures that it's made out of laminate.  That splotchy back piece is pretty much a dead giveaway.  So I went with this primer and then followed up with a few coats of this spraypaint.

I really wasn't sure how well it would hold up with it being laminate and all, but it's been a few months and so far there isn't a scratch or ding.  The paint seems to have adhered really well.  That could definitely change in the future, but for now I'm really happy with how well it's held up.

Since the shelves aren't that wide, some of her books wouldn't fit.  It just so happened that I had a basket that fit perfectly and holds the larger books well on the bottom shelf.

It doesn't fit all her books, but it still holds plenty and we try to rotate her books anyway to keep things fresh.

Looks great! I plan on having various bookcases throughout my house for my one year old so one like this one would be perfect! And you can't beat the price! Score!

How cute! I always hesitate to spray paint furniture, I can never get even coverage. But this is the perfect piece for it! Love your photo all styled up!
