I thought I'd share a little more info on how my fall table scape came together. I'm kind of loving black and white stripes these days, so I wanted that to be the base for my table setting. I only wanted to buy a yard of fabric because it would cost me half as much to make it if I could get away with it. I started with this fabric from IKEA. For $7.99/yard it's a pretty good deal.
Then, I cut it in half vertically so I had two pieces that were 59" long. Then, I just sewed the two pieces together. I do have a seam in the middle, but it's not that noticeable and it was worth it to me to save the money. If the seam bothers you, just get more yardage and you will have enough extra fabric to make at least one more runner. Having a centerpiece also helps camouflage the seam.
Then I turned my edges under twice to get a nice finished seam.
It was so easy to do and I will get a lot of use out of it since it's a classic pattern and color.
My inspiration for the color palette for this room came from this paper from World Market. It comes in threes online, but in the store you can buy it per sheet. I think it was around $3.
I was able to use one sheet for both frames and I have a little leftover.
And lastly the silverware. I picked this up a few years ago at The Nester's yard sale. I found a few other small things while I was there, but this was my favorite purchase. It's so unique and the back is stamped "made in Thailand." It seems like there should be a good story behind it.
The gilded feathers were so easy. I dipped them in gold paint, scraped of the excess, and sprinkled them with gold glitter. Once it was dry they were good to go.
The glitter I used is called tinsel glitter. The one I used is made by Martha Stewart. I happened to grab it at Michaels a long time ago when it was on clearance. It's more like little strands of glitter instead of the usual little specks. It adds some nice texture.
Oh, and the antlers. I've wanted antlers for forever, something I never thought I'd say! Some people think they are creepy, but I love the natural element they add. When we were in the mountains a few weeks ago I made it my mission to hunt (no pun intended) some down in one of the antique malls we visited. As you can see, mission accomplished! They were actually mounted when I bought them, but I just unscrewed them so I could use them on my mantle. I saved the mount though in case I change my mind, which is likely to happen. :)
