Yes, another lamp...

OK, I admit it...I'm addicted to making lamps. In fact, I'm thinking about turning that addiction into something healthy like opening an Etsy shop. Hopefully more on that soon. Anyways, I spotted this finial in the clearance section of a local floral shop. I probably wouldn't have bought it, but it was $1.50! That's less than a cup of coffee, I couldn't pass that up. What was my first thought? Why not make a lamp? I was hoping it would be hollow and thankfully it was. I used a hand saw to saw the decorative portion off the top. I needed it to be flat. Then I drilled a hole in the top for the cord to come through.

Next, I taped it off to prepare for some fresh paint...

trimmed the edges with an exacto knife...

and put it all together! The lampshade was another goodwill find for $0.99 and I used parts and pieces from old lamps in my garage to wire it, so...I have a new lamp for $2.50! Can't beat that!

I have been following your blog hoping you can read my mind. I'm looking for a tutorial about the wiring part of reworking the wiring in existing lamps or using a kit, where to find said kits that you've referenced, etc. I'll you'll consider sharing some of your knowledge with us!

Judi and House of Smith's, I've actually been thinking about doing a tutorial on how to wire/rewire a lamp. Check back in the next few days, you will be amazed at how easy it is!
