Table for Eight

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  My in laws came into town at the end of last week, so we spent the weekend rummaging garage sales and celebrating birthdays.  I didn't find much, but I did grab a few things for the little one and a beautiful milk glass punch bowl set, even though  my collection is bursting out of my china cabinet.  There's always room for one more piece, especially when it's a great deal! :)

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I came across this great bench on Craigslist for a steal.  I've always wanted to do some sort of bench seating on one side of our dining room table.  I actually love the look of a sofa or upholstered piece on one side of the table, but I'm pretty sure it would end up covered in spills at this point in our lives.  So I went with this bench instead.  It has nice, simple lines and is very sturdy.

The finish wasn't in great shape and the color was off, but that's nothing a little paint couldn't fix.  I primed it with Kilz Adhesion Primer and then gave it a few coats of white paint.  I've really been loving  this paint lately.  I just wait for a sale and pick it up then.

It was tricky to photograph this space because our kitchen is so open to our living room and there are a few things going on in there that I can't share quite yet.  But I just couldn't wait any longer to share this with you!

We are loving it so far.  It's so much easier for my daughter to climb on and off of and I don't have to worry about her leaning back in the chairs.  It's easy to wipe clean and we can fit more people this way too.  Three adults could easily fit and probably four to five little ones, making it at least a table for eight.  This is our only dining area (we are using the "official" dining room for my office) so I'm trying to squeeze as much seating into this area as possible!

  5. What a great mix for your table! I love the variety of seating. I'm loving that ProClassic paint, also. I used that for some of my black doors and it's what I'm going to use for my kitchen cabs. And, I tried the Behr Decorator White and love it!

  21. What a great addition. I love benches - you can really pack in the seats without the extra space a bunch of chairs require.
