His and hers monograms

I've always been drawn to monograms, they're just so classic and southern.  I mentioned a while back that I got an embroidery machine for Christmas and I'm just now getting around to figuring out how to monogram with it.  Now that I've figured it out it could be a dangerous thing.  I've done a few shirts and things for the little one and wanted to start experimenting with things in my home.

I was inspired by this picture I saw in Better Homes and Gardens.  I'm pretty sure it was the May issue. It's funny how we all notice different things when we look at a picture of a room.  The first thing that caught my eye was the monogram on the shams.  Maybe it's because of my love of monograms.  I thought it was such a nice little touch, it's all in the details.  I also noticed the lines of the sham were very similar to the shams I already had.

(picture I snapped with my phone)

And here's how mine turned out.  It's a subtle change but I like it.  I used my embroidery machine like I mentioned above, but if you don't own one you could still easily add this to any of your bedding by taking your item to an embroidery shop.  Most of the shops I've been to charge around $6-$8 per monogram, depending on the size.  After doing a little bit of googling research, I learned when doing a couple's monogram you put the woman's first initial, the couples last initial, and then the man's first initial.  Some people refer to it as a wedding monogram.

If we ever go back to a duvet, instead of the quilt, I think I might be tempted to put one smack dab in the middle of the bed.

What are your thoughts on monograms?  Do you love them as much as I do?

  7. Yes, I love them too! I noticed those right away in BH&G also. I like them because of the placement higher up on the euro shams rather than centered on a smaller pillow on the front of the bed. You did a great job!
