DIY outdoor checkers table

Thank you all so much for your sweet words on my Home Depot Patio Challenge Reveal!  It really was such a fun project and we are really enjoying having a cozy spot to hang out now that the weather is warmer.  I'm going to be sharing a few of the simple DIYs I incorporated into the space, starting with this DIY checkerboard table.  This is a very simple project that anyone can make.  I started with this wood disc and this plant stand from Home Depot.

I stained the wood disc with some leftover stain I had in the garage.  Then I attached it to the base with these.

To create the checkerboard pattern, I used 1" painters tape and some black paint.  I started by taping off a criss cross pattern and then I cut out the overlapping squares to create the checkerboard pattern.

After the paint dried, I taped off the edges to make a border.

Then I finished it off with a few coats of polyurethane to make it more durable.

For the checkers, I used some washers from the hardware department.  (half of them got a dose of gold spray paint)
