Frame Fun

I have a thing for frames too, especially big, chunky ones. I had some of these sitting in my garage for a while and decided it was time to give them a little facelift. I actually kind of liked the gold on the first one, but thought silver would go better with my bedroom.
Here are a couple befores...

This is actually a fake fern leaf spraypainted white.  I kind of like the monochromatic look of the white on white.

I'm not much of an artist but I painted this little tree for this frame to match our bedroom...

and for this one I used my "placemat stencil" that I used for this end table.

I'm glad they've found a home in my room and aren't just sitting out in the garage anymore.  Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Yet another light...

You all are probably getting tired of all my light makeovers, I don't know what it is I just have a thing for lights. Anyways, I was just getting tired of the light in our office. It's been there for a while, well maybe only a year but that's a while for me :) and I only spent a couple dollars on it so I didn't feel so bad about trading it out. I'm sure I'll find another way to repurpose it. I ran across this lovely lamp for $1.99 at the Goodwill and I just loved the shape and style of it. So, I got out my trusty white spraypaint and turned it into something new. The lampshade was also a Goodwill find, for $2.99. So for about $5, I have a lovely new lamp for our office. I'm always amazed at what a difference a little spraypaint makes!

Traditional Home

I am a sucker for magazines, especially design magazines.  Better Homes and Gardens has a deal going on right now for some of their magazine subscriptions.  They are only $7 for a whole year!  I just subscribed to Traditional Home and Better Homes and Gardens.  Can't wait to get them in the mail!  Just thought some of you might be interested in this too.  Here is the link.  Thank you to my sister for sharing this with me!  And since we are talking about Traditional Home, here are some of my current favorites from them...

Sconce Makeover

I wish I had taken a before picture of these, but I totally forgot. I'm sure you've all seen these wooden sconces at the Goodwill before but I had never seen any this large. I loved the size and chunkiness of them. I found the glass vases at Hobby Lobby for a couple dollars and the sticks were just lying in my garage. I think they add a little more drama to my dining room and when I get tired of the sticks (which you all know I love sticks), I can switch it out with candles or some different stems.  So, here it is...

Tuesday

DIY shadow box

I've always loved shadow boxes. I just think they are so pretty and I love that you can fill them with so many different natural elements. While we were visiting Charleston, I saw these beautiful shadow boxes and inside them was some even more spectacular coral. The whole shop was filled with beautiful, unique things but they were all outrageously priced. So, I took a picture of it with the intent of doing a DIY project on it one day. Later, we were shopping around and I found these sea fans for $10! I immediately thought of the coral shadowboxes and the wheels began to turn.

When I got home I remembered that I had these two square frames from the Goodwill and the sea fan fit perfectly inside them. I was off to a good start...

Now, I just had to figure out how to turn it into a shadow box. So, I found these little wheels at A.C. Moore to use as "spacers".

I hot glued three of them together and drilled a hole down the middle, then I spraypainted them white.

Next, I hot glued the glass into place in the frame so it wouldn't move around.

I spraypainted the frame white and then I found some old plywood I had leftover in the garage.  I measured it to be exactly the same size as the frame and then cut it to the right size.  Next, I covered it with some thick white fabric, using a staple gun.

Then, I forgot to take a picutre of this, so I will try to explain it the best I can.  I put each stack of three wheels in each corner and then laid the frame on top of that.  Then, I screwed it all together, making sure that everything lined up.  The sea fan got a nice coat of gray spraypaint, because gray is my new favorite neutral.  And now they adorn our entryway...

Saturday

A little birdie told me...

I have been wanting to put a narrow side table underneath this mirror behind our front door for the longest time. It looked fine the way it was but to me it just seemed like it was missing something. I searched high and low trying to find one, but couldn't find one narrow enough.  (It had to be narrow so the closet door beside it would still be able to open) So, when you can't find what you need, you make it!

I found this little guy at the Goodwill and for some reason I was just drawn to it. I don't know why, maybe it was just kind of ecclectic and different? Anyways, the wheels started turning and I decided to make a shelf instead of a table for that space. I found the board at Lowe's and just screwed the two pieces together, added some primer and white spraypaint and now it totally changes the way that area looks.

I kind of wish they had two of them so I could have done one on each end, but they may have been too much.  I'm really pleased with how it turned out, it looks kind of z-galleryish to me.
