Look what I found!

I found this chair today at the Goodwill for $4.99 today. I love the lines of it and I think it has so much potential. I have seen so many blogs recently with people reupholstering chairs and have been waiting for the perfect chair to try it out on. I'm very intimidated by it, but even if I totally mess it up I'm still only out $5.

I'm dreaming it will become one of these beauties... (fingers crossed :)

White Apothecary

I love apothecary jars and I love using white as an accent color so I thought, why not combine the two? My lovely in laws brought me this apothecary jar from the thrift store. He actually works at a thrift store and is able to get first dibs on most things that come in. Doesn't that sound like the best job in the world?!? Althought I love this jar just the way it is, I have a few others that are clear as well. I wanted this one to be different.

So...I grabbed some white spraypaint and got to work. I really like the way it turned out!

Play Kitchen-Part 2

Ok, it's time for the reveal of the play kitchen! I am so excited about this. I hope I have a little girl one day so I can make one for her.

I found these plates and bowls at Target and the cups are from the dollar store...

the faucet is from the Restore, the "sink" is a plastic bowl from the dollar store, the burners are the lids of cookie tins (spraypainted silver)

I got the cute little spice rack on the side from Goodwill. The fabric for the skirt was on sale at Hancock Fabrics. I love how it brings the yellow and purple together.

The knobs are from Homegoods.  I never knew Homegoods even had knobs but they have some cute ones and they are $7.99/4 pack.

I took a $0.99 frame from Goodwill, spraypainted it and framed some material in it to make a dry erase board.  She can use it to write her grocery lists and such.

Shelves for extra groceries...

and of course you can't have a kitchen without food!  I was going to attempt to make some felt food but ran out of time so I bought this from Target instead.  Maybe one day I will tackle that project.

Happy Birthday Emily!!

Friday

Completed Kitchen-Part 1

The play kitchen is finally complete! As with most projects this one took a lot longer than expected. It seems like you always run into those little things that cause you some trouble. In the end though it was definitly worth it and I'm so excited to give it to my future niece tomorrow for her birthday. I think she will have lots of fun playing with it!

I started with this sewing table, given to me by a friend. It's cool how the timing worked out on this because when I got this table I didn't have a use for it but knew I would find one. Then a few days later I had the idea to make the play kitchen and this table ended up working out perfectly!

I had to shorten the legs some to make it the right height and I added a few shelves (I used scrap MDF from Lowe's, they gave it to me for free!) I figured out how to use my hand circular saw for the first time. I am so excited that I actually know how to use it now. Call me crazy, but it's actually kind of addicting.

Next, I cut the holes for my "sink" and faucet. This was a huge pain. If I had a router it would have gone much smoother, I'm sure. I didn't though, so I painstakingly made several small holes with my drill and then connected them with a small hand saw. It looks kind of rough, but I knew it would be covered in the end so I didn't worry too much about it.

Next I attached the original top of the sewing table to the back using some screws and brackets from Lowe's. I also attached the shelves that I purchased from Goodwill. I thought they would be perfect for little dishes or other fun kitchen stuff.

and I hate to leave you hanging but that's all I have for tonight.  I'm waiting on my wonderful sister to send me the "after" pictures.  I took some with my camera but they just didn't do it justice.  I will post the completed pictures tomorrow!  Be sure to check back!  Happy Friday!

Milk Glass Finds

My milk glass collection is growing, slowly but surely. I have picked up several pieces recently at the thrift stores and gotten several as gifts for my birthday. I love them all! I've had so much fun collecting it and hope to have it for a long time!

This is one my brother gave me for my birthday. He did good didn't he? He may have had a little help from my mom... :)

and I made this cake stand out of a milk glass plate and a milk glass lamp base from my aunt...

This one is one of my favorites. I've got a thing for candy dishes, and the candy that goes in them ;) I won this actually from an auction. I was so excited, I never win anything!

This one is another favorite, the lady said it was from the early 1900's. It's just cool to me to have something that has been around that long.
This is probably my most favorite piece.  It was a birthday gift from my mom and I just love it.

and it's hard to tell from the picture but the one on the left is my very first piece of pink milk glass!  It was only $2!

it's filling up my cabinet nicely :)

Wednesday

White Chandelier

I'm back! Sorry it has taken me so long to post, we have been busy with lots of birthdays and family in town. I have been busy working on lots of projects and collecting new finds. Tomorrow I am going to show you some of the many wonderful things I have found on my recent thrifting excursions. Here is one that I found at one of our local thrift stores. This chandelier was $4 and just the perfect size for the top of my stairs. It did need some new paint and some shades to dress it up a bit.

These shades were $1, so for $5 plus some spraypaint I have a new light!  To me, it changes the whole look of the area.  I have to take a picture of the whole space so you can see what I mean.

I'm thinking about lining the shades with some fun black and white scrapbook paper but I haven't got that far yet. If I decide to do it I will post some more pictures!

Play Kitchens

I have seen so many of these adorable play kitchens floating around blog land and I think they are fabulous!  I have been dying for an excuse to DIY one and it turns out I will now have that chance!  My future niece is turning 6 next weekend and I think it will be the perfect gift for her.  I've been gathering all the stuff I think I will need so I can get started on it tomorrow.  I could definitly get carried away with this thing.  Here are some that have inspired me...Have you made one?  Have you seen any other great ones out there?  I'd love to see them for a little more inspiration!

This is one of my favorites, I love the little picture of the lettuce and the fabric is so sweet.

A little More Easter Decor...

I have added a few more Easter decorations to our home. I love all the fun colored eggs that are available this time of year. I found some that I loved that were a really pretty blue color with red speckles all over them. I've never seen any like them before but for some reason I passed them up. I went back and apparently someone else liked them as much as I did because they were gone. I found these blue and yellow ones that I liked so they will just have to do. The birdcage was $3.99 from the Goodwill and just needed a fresh coat of spraypaint.  Inside it is a $0.99 apothecary jar from the Goodwill filled with my new eggs.

These little cheese servers were only $1.99 at Goodwill and they make a perfect display for my eggs and bird's nests.

and without the lid so you can see the eggs and little nest....

Monday

Black & White & Red all over!

I found these lovely lamps at the Goodwill for $5.99. They were missing some of their crystals and were in desperate need of some fresh paint, but other than that they were perfect. So I added some fun red spraypaint and a few new crystals and now they adorn my newly refinished cabinet. I changed up the accesories a bit too just for something different. I like the way the red pops on the black wall and it just makes the space a little more fun!

and my new little milk glass bird to add to my collection... ($0.99 at the Goodwill)
