Road to The Depot

I mentioned before that I have some exciting news to share and today I'm going to share it with you all.  A couple of weeks ago we went with some friends to a local antique/designer mall for a day of shopping.  The place was so huge we didn't even make it through the whole thing, but we all loved it.  On a whim, we asked what the rent was for a booth and that got my wheels turning.  We discussed it with our friends and decided to partner together and open our own booth.  We all have a love for Goodwill and refinishing furniture so this was finally a way to put that to good use, seeing as how I have no more room in our home for anything and I just can't give up my furniture/goodwill addiction! ;)  This is a great creative outlet for me and I feel like it will open the doors for more design opportunities.  We just opened our booth officially this past weekend.  The name of the antique mall is called, The Depot at Gibson Mill.  It's a beautiful old building that has been converted from an old mill.  It is filled with a mixture of wide plank wooden floors, large open windows, and soaring high ceilings.  It's the perfect place to spend a Saturday, or any day for that matter.  So, if you are ever in North Carolina, stop by and check it out!  Just click the link above for more info.  We are located in the back corner of the design center.  There's definitely a great mix of old and new, antique and contemporary.

Here's some pictures of the beginning of this journey

We had to build an additional wall to enclose the space...

and finish the existing walls...

ready for some sanding and painting....

I wanted to do molding on the back wall, but I don't quite trust myself to do that yet.  So I painted some white squares on the wall and then taped over them with Frog tape.  I forgot to take a picture of it with the tape, but you get the idea.

Next up, painting.  I have always wanted to paint a room black but have never had the guts to do it in my own home.  I did one black wall at the top of my stairs and I love it, but I've never done a whole room.  I used the Behr paint plus primer and it worked like a charm.  I only had to do two coats which I thought was great, especially for black.

peeling off the tape...the Frog tape worked great, hardly any bleed through at all!

we added some beams to hang a chandelier and add some more interest....

This chandelier was a $5 thrift store find, it started out brass and all it needed was nice white paint.  I'm always amazed at what a little spray paint will do.

More pictures to come!  We are planning on adding a nice rug and some curtain panels at the front.  I will post some pictures when all that's done.

Here is the rug I would love to have off of Craigslist, but it's $200!  It's the perfect size though, it's 9 by 9 and the space is 10 by 10.  Maybe they will come down on the price.

The booth is full of furniture and home accessories and open for business so go check it out!  I'm going to post some pictures of all the available items soon or you can go by and see for yourself! :)

Way to go -- That is looking fantabulous! Shoot -- I like it better than some of my rooms in my house. The drama is certainly going to bring people in. I know you will be very successful!

Thank you all for your sweet comments and encouragment! I am super excited about it! If you are ever in the area it's a great place to check out, it's the largest antique mall in the southeast! It took us three days to go through the whole thing.
