You may remember the chandelier I did here. Well, my sister loved them so much that she decided she wanted one for her own house. So, for her birthday this year I decided to oblige her. :) She was very surprised and excited to have a nice, new light fixture.
This time I found the light fixture for only $5!

but it just looked a little plain. I thought adding some fabric to the shade would give it a little more pizazz. I was always intimidated to do this for some reason, but it turned out to be super easy.
I traced the outline of the shade onto some fabric and then cut it out. I found this great fabric at Hancock fabrics on the remnants table for a few dollars a yard!
I just used a little spray adhesive to attach it....
that's much better now, isn't it?
and the finished product! They actually use their garage as an entryway most of the time so this new light makes this area feel much more "foyer like".
Total cost for this project....less than $10! can't beat that.

Can't wait to try this chandie makeover! And while those chandies are in almost every thrift store here in southern Arizona they run about $30 each. Urgh! Yours look so fabulous...and $10...I'm sighing!
ReplyDeleteI just love these light fixture makeover's you do. They have tons of these come through our local thrift store. I'm going to start buying them and replace our "boob" lights in all my hallways! Love your blog!

ReplyDeleteDANG. you are GOOD.
ReplyDeleteWow beautiful and love the fabric touch. I did the lamp shade change with my kitchen modern light fixture. Left if stainless but the shade made all the difference once I removed the flying saucer globe.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! What a difference!
ReplyDeleteI keep my light on all the time just so I can enjoy it. Ladies, it looks even better in person than it does in the pics. I have the most talented sister!! Best birthday present, hands down!
ReplyDeleteThis is SUCH a great idea!!! I love that you also add a pattern to the lampshade. Well done, crafty blogger. Well done. :)

This is perfect timing. My HORRIBLE brass ceiling fan in my living room just died while in the middle of a home improvement project that has gone horribly over budget. Thanks for sharing your vision and thriftiness. I too have a passion for reusing old items!
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me where you got the shade & how big it is?
Thanks,
Lynn

That is the most ingenious idea I have seen in a long while. Now I am dying to try it!
ReplyDeleteI dropped over from "Be Different Act Normal" to check out your light project. This is so neat. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I might try this for our master bedroom. This could be very romantic.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and I will definitly be following!
(I subscribe to all the fancy mags for inspiration too.)
p.s. love the boots in your home pic!
Thank you all so much! Lynn, I'm not sure how big the shade is but I can measure it if you need me to. It's just a medium size drum shade. I actually had it laying around my house but you can get similar ones at Target or Garden Ridge. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteThis is just awesome. I saw your first one and saved the link, just in case. I think I like this one even better!!! I am a fan of bold colors which makes me love the fabric!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have a new follower!
Gorgeous!!! Love the fabric!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's nice :)
ReplyDeleteCould you please tell me where you bought your lamp shade? I got all the way to adding the shade and realized that the hole opening of the shade is too small to thread over the threaded tube of the light fixture. sigh!
